Back when sinbad took aladdin and the others to sindria or I guess while helping out a bit in balbadd was it because he cared for them and wanted to help or the fact that once he found out aladdin is a Magi, morgiana a fanalis and alibaba who was a dungeon capturer and became a hero in balbadd was that the reason wanted power and strength or both? I personally thought he cared. He risked his life and he’s still sinbad. Got to love him ❤️

Personally i think it’s a bit of both. Sinbad likes power to safe guard his assets, and Morgiana, Aladdin and Alibaba just happened to fall into his lap on his trip to Balbadd!

But at the same time, the 3 of them give him nostalgia, he does long pauses, he knows what he’s become when it involves using other people to protect what he wants to protect, and have what he wants to have. They remind him of who he was before the bitterness of life took hold.

When he first met Morgiana and Aladdin and before he knew Alibaba was the Prince, and before he knew Aladdin was a Magi, he wanted to help Balbadd because he cared and repected King Rashid. He already planned to help Balbadd before knowing what Aladdin was.

On Ja’far and the Gestaltzerfall Effect from Volume 34

Hi everyone! Murphy here again. It’s been a while since I’ve posted on of these theories on this blog, huh. Sinja is really thriving these days with Snb and all~ This time I will be focussing on the Volume 34 Paper, the Love Counselling Session with Pisti. (SEE BELOW)

The raws were posted by someone on twitter or tumblr? If someone knows please let me know so I can credit them~ Thank you!

The translation of Ja’far’s piece reads:

Ja’far: “I’ve been so busy with work and my vision is getting bleary. I now suffer from Gestaltzerfall when reading the 恋 in 恋爱.”

Pisti: “It’s going to be alright! It’s probably has something to do with your age as well… never mind, sorry, forget what I said.”

I’m sure every SinJa and Ja'far lover was confused when they read this. We finally get a peek into Ja’far’s love life but we are given this weird content instead? What does Gestaltzerfall mean? Why does this affect only Ja’far?

Well, I have yet to see a proper post detailing this which is why I am going to try my hand at analysing it today! Everyone please bear with me! (Long post ahead, watch out!!)

Wow that’s a lot to think about! I agree with your idea that Ja’far might not be able to recognize the feelings he’s held as for so long as love because they aren’t exactly the same as they were when he was younger. Of course Pitsi (our love expert) understands exactly what he’s talking about and tells him not to worry because *puts on social scientist glasses* love types evolve the longer people are together.

I would say Ja’far is probably thinking that the question is referring to romantic love, when in reality that isn’t the best definition for his and Sinbad’s relationship. I would define their relationship as Storge, and specifically Ja’far’s feeling as Agape.

In Social Science Storge is defined as “growing slowly out of friendship and is based more on similar interests and a commitment to one another rather than on passion [x]. Storgic lovers sometimes cannot pinpoint the moment that friendship turned to love [x].”

Agape is defined as “the purest form of love, derives its definition of love from being altruistic towards one’s partner and feeling love in the acts of doing so. The person is willing to endure difficulty that arises from the partner’s circumstance. It is based on an unbreakable commitment and an unconditional, selfless love, that is all giving. It is an undying love that is full of compassion and selflessness [x].”

So according to theory a healthy relationship in which both partners are committed to the others well being can evolve from Romantic to Storge. However not all romantic relationship become Storge and not all Storge relationships are Romantic. Nevertheless it is still a form of love!

On a slightly unrelated note, gestaltzerfall seems a little like what happenes to some dyslexics with certain words because of forced memorized spelling. Also probably why I was strongly advised not to take Japanese in school.

It's not really Sinbad's style to go to war and cruelly kill his enemies, right? Although Sinbad and the Seven Seas Alliance are directly taking part in the war, I feel like it's wrong to assume Sinbad wants to wipe out the Kou Empire in this way. Maybe he's trying to protect Hakuryuu from dying and trying to keep this war from growing too big. I'm not sure though. Sinbad could have changed since his times in SnB. But I feel like he never liked war because of Parthevia.

I wholeheartedly agree that Sinbad doesn’t seem to be the kind of person who enjoys war (or death). I mean, he could have had plenty of both if he had accepted Judar’s offer, and it didn’t seem to be something he was willing to do at all. However, he also strikes me as the type who would do anything, even if it was against his core values, in order to protect his people.

In other words, I don’t think that he has changed that much in the essentials since Sinbad no Bouken, but as his circumstances and responsibilities have changed, the type of decisions and actions he is willing to take must have as well. This is supported by the fact that we have already seen Sinbad himself fully conscious of his actions, and feeling conflicted about it.

On Hakuryuu, though… well, precisely because of the above I sincerely doubt that he is intervening in a civil war just to keep a single person (Hakuryuu) alive. From a king’s standpoint, the life of one person that is not even from his kingdom is not worth risking those of his citizens and allies.

No, Sinbad is in this for the sake of the Seven Seas Alliance, not Hakuryuu - and his feelings about war are of little consequence when compared to the threat that the Empire poses.
