I have seen people talk about this already and my opinion is similar.
Even tho I’d love that Ja’far had scales permanently (Tbh initially I thought he did and found it incredibly hot, like imagine 30 year old Ja’far full of scales, sidjvpodsjdsopjop, do not kinkshame me, Murphy I’m looking at you), I don’t think that’s the case.
Well, we are also lacking a lot of information. For instance we don’t know what actually happened for Ja’far to transform. The only thing we got were the words resonating in his mind. I wonder if it happened while he was almost unconscious, since that last attack was meant to kill him too. If Ja’far did it unconsciously it would make sense that it didn’t work fully. After all Ja’far himself got terrified and confused about his arm growing back and his scales, which means he wasn’t aware of his actions. Maybe he chanted the words in his mind but the thought was interrupted the moment he realized what he was doing, and then he got scared he almost got fused with his household and fainted.
About the scales being permanent: they could be but also couldn’t be. The issue is, his right arm growing back is a permanent effect so, why the scales wouldn’t be? Because his eyes changed too, but the change was not permanent.
That’s the only reason I have for doubting it. Moreover Ja’far became a monster and reverted back seconds after, so we don’t know if the scales there were also starting to disappear, while his arm growing was just the household regenerating him before he turned into a monster….(I’m sad we don’t know how Households actually work).
We know Ja’far’s eyes look normal in Magi, thus it’s possible Ja’far’s chest is normal too. However, Ja’far’s eyes do change when he’s angry and ready to fight seriously.
So there’s a possibility that when Ja’far fights with all his might, not only the eyes return, but the scales….or even maybe he can transform in that beast for a few seconds too. (?) Wow, so many questions suddenly rise, don’t they?
What’s sure tho, is that when a little of Ja’far’s chest is shown in Magi, scales are nowhere to be found, but that could be just details???
I hope that we get to see if the scales stayed there or not at some point.
Haha just when I thought all mysteries surrounding Ja’far would finally be revealed.
These questions rise another one tho: Is this why Sinbad doesn’t let Ja’far fight with all his power? Or more precisely, is this why Sinbad doesn’t let Ja’far lose control?
That time when Cassim insulted Sin, Ja’far was so angry he attempted to murder without controlling himself.
It’s like he didn’t realized what he was doing. And Sinbad just easily forgave him, then Ja’far rushed to heal the wound he caused him.
I wonder if when someone is half-assimilated, they are in constant risk of the household taking over them????
When Ja’far wants to fight Judar, was he stopped because Judar is def stronger than him? Or because Sinbad felt Ja’far was in risk of assimilating if he went berserk?
I think it’s all of them? Well I don’t think Magi at that point matches SnB that much, but this is gonna become a beloved HC of mine ♥.
Anyway I’m happy we still have a lot to look forward to.
Panels taken from Sense-Scans and @arashidono (thanks bby)
All the following panels were taken from @arashidono and edited.
I hate having to read SnB at work. Putting aside the deaths of 3 of my most beloved Magi characters (I already cried a lot tbh), we got this moment, which was amazing and beautiful and perfect.
Just picture Sinbad entering that place and seeing the bodies of Shaka, Vittel and Mahad. The shock it must have been after Mystras’s death….. and then realizing Ja’far had to be there too. Now, Sinbad has already gone through Ja’far possibly being death and we all remember how much he lost it back then. So he’s also reliving an old trauma, except this time Ja’far might actually be death.Three of his friends died so, why wouldn’t Ja’far be dead too?
Imagine Sinbad slowly checking if Ja’far’s heart is still beating, being so terrified. And then realizing he’s still alive. *sigh*
No wonder why Sinbad wanted to be the one carrying him, even tho Hinahoho and Pipirika, who are much stronger than him, were there too. I especially love that panel in which just the two of them are shown. Ja’far waking up and realizing he’s being carried gently by Sin.
Sin is handling him so dearly >+o.
Is he carrying him cause he was so scared to lose him? Because he wanted Ja’far to be close to him so he’s sure he’s ok, to protect him. Did Sin want Ja’far to wake up and see him first, so he isn’t scared? Did he want to comfort him? Is Sin ashamed of not being there with him, so he didn’t want to look at Ja’far thus he offered him his back to cry instead?
This is the intimate physical contact I wanted them to have since long ago!! They are so close together. I bet Sin can feel Ja’far’s heart beating fast and his warm tears and his hands holding onto him. The moment is just so intimate. I bet Ja’far feels comfortable on Sin’s back, all warm, covered in Sin’s scent too >+o
This is yet another big slap in the faces of everyone who claims Sinbad never cared about Ja’far. I hope the manga keeps proving them wrong as it continues.
^ I love this panel because it shows how close they are
^Ja’far trembling as he tells Sin about Vittel and Mahad.
^In this one it looks like Ja’far’s arms are hugging Sin’s neck as he cries??
Anyway, bazillion of headcanons can come out of this ♥ You bet Imma draw a lot of this too. I just can’t believe this finally happened….. Thanks so much Ohtera-sensei ♥♥♥
Ok, this does not make sense. If Hinahoho is indeed “falling into depravity” in SNB171, then how on Earth did the rewriting of the rukh work on him? Unless he was faking it…?
